Kibébé
UX Research + Redesign of eComm Website
Kibebe.com
Kibébé is a non-profit African lifestyle brand economically empowering refugees and Malawians alike. Skilled artisans transform colorful traditional fabric used throughout East Africa to create a curated collection of handcrafts that come with stories of resilience and opportunity.
I started as a volunteer UX Designer tasked with updating their Shopify eCommerce site. My duties quickly expanded to cover product photography, marketing and social media. I’ve recently joined as a board member to take a more committed role in growing the brand by owning the website’s usability and overall look.
The website is constantly changing as products change and more resources become available—a challenge that comes with a small non-profit startup. Please feel free to visit the current website at kibebe.com and see the website in its early stages below.
Scope: Ongoing, redesign website, increase traffic, email sign-up, and conversion.
My Role: UX Researcher, UX Designer, Marketing Director, Product Photographer.
Tools: User Interviews, Cart Sorting, Shopify + Third Party Apps

Persona
Based on user interviews I identified similar habits around online shopping, gift giving, discovering new products and services, and how new discoveries are shared with friends and family. This led me to Sarah, who our Kibébé team uses as a customer persona that we keep in mind when making decisions for both the website design and marketing strategies.
